Erg Playlists

Music to erg to, pt. 55

I’ve gotten a lot of emails lately and seen tons of stuff online about how everyone’s first 5ks/6ks are coming up soon so this week’s playlist is a mostly-heavy rock inspired one to help keep you going while you’re prepping for those. Remember, have a plan, let your coxswain know if you want to be coxed, and focus on staying consistent throughout the whole piece. Flying and dying never worked for anyone!

  1. It happened my very first time coxing. I gripped the wires and the gunnels with my pinky finger way too tight. Hurt real bad when I got off the water, real bad. I’d say the pain subsided in about the same amount of time that yours did.

  2. Have you been doing something that requires a lot of hand movement? Maybe it was a bad cramp. Sometimes I get pain in that area too, especially on race days. Eventually I discovered it was because I was clenching my hand a certain way from being nervous and I didn’t know it. I don’t think it’s tendonitis, it takes a ~~lot~~ to develop that and I don’t think steering is enough to cause it, but that’s just my idea. Next time you go out, I would check out your hand position, and if it doesn’t go away, go see your primary, in case it is something like tendonitis. Please feel better!

    1. That’s what I was thinking too, maybe I was just clenching my hand too tightly for some reason. I’ve occasionally gotten pains there before but never anything like this, which was why I thought maybe I was aggravating the tendons somehow. Hopefully it’s just a one-time thing though!

  3. Never had this before…. maybe you just really tensed it the entire time for some reason? Doesn’t sound like tendonitis either, that would probably be there much longer.

    1. I’m guessing that had to have been what it was, I just had a really abnormally tight grip or something the whole time. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again though … it was not a pleasant feeling!
