Video of the Week: If there’s no wind, row

By now pretty much everyone knows the story of “the boys in the boat” but I came across this video the other day and thought it did a good job of summarizing UW’s story and highlighting what was going on in the world in the lead up to the 1936 games (specifically as a result of the depression in the US and as the Nazis began rising to power in Germany).

Fun fact: Bob Moch, the coxswain, was the head coach at MIT for five years in the 40s while he was going to Harvard Law School.

Video of the Week: UW’s Last 250m

This is a pretty neat split screen video that shows the University of Washington’s MV8+ during the IRA finals last spring, with the view of the finish line tower on the right and the coxswain’s view in the boat on the left. His audio is included too and it’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect the last 250m of a national championship race to sound like.

Video of the Week: University of Washington vs. Cambridge University Boat Club

Last weekend, while those of us in USA were prepping for CRASH-Bs, the University of Washington Huskies headed across the pond to race Cambridge University on the Tideway. Matthew Pinsent served as the official umpire of the race, which saw Washington come away with a 3 length victory over CUBC.
